Ribbon Hero Update!

There’s a new update of Ribbon Hero! If you’re already using Ribbon Hero, you will soon see an Auto Update message prompting you to get an update to the new build. If you aren’t already using Ribbon Hero, now is a great time to get started!  Install it!

What’s new in this update?

  • More Quick Points. Now you can get a higher score by using more features in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Better hints. We heard your feedback that the hint text was sometimes confusing, so we updated the wording to help you find features faster. We also improved the hint images so that you can see what tab each feature is on.
  • Ability to earn points from playing challenges twice. We heard your feedback that it wasn’t clear how to earn all of the points from a challenge, so we’ve changed our points model. Now you can earn points from playing a challenge twice, as long as you play the challenge on two separate days. (You can still earn points by using features in the app; we didn’t remove that functionality!)
  • Ability to comment on Facebook posts directly from the Ribbon Hero add-in.
  • Better experience around earning achievements. Now, when you earn achievements, we notify you whether or not you’re logged into Facebook.
  • More sound effects when you earn achievements.

Have fun trying it out, and please post feedback and questions in the discussion forum! There are more updates on the way based on the feedback in the discussion forums – stay tuned!

Thanks!
the Ribbon Hero team

Lots of crashes with Chrome

Is there anyway to watch the video here: http://www.officelabs.com/ribbonhero in something other than silverlight?  It keeps crashing in Chrome.

And, even posting a comment leaves a big nasty error with Chrome.  There's no reason a browser should cause a site error.

Responses

Hello,
Thanks for the comments and questions. Here are a few responses to the questions on this thread.

cjmcqueen: You can stream the videos from Showcase by clicking the "Watch as WMV" link in the lower right-hand corner.

bluebellsix: Fear not, you can use Ribbon Hero from both machines! When you log into Facebook from both machines, we will sync your scores. Points earned on your desktop will be transferred to your laptop, and vice versa.

Moonlight: For the time being, there aren't any more levels in RH, but you can expect something along these lines in a future update.

Cheers!

Ribbon Hero doesn't work on Windows 7 64 Bit

I recently downloaded and installed Ribbon Hero on my Dell Studio 15 laptop and on my Vostro 1500, but with no luck.  I can't run it, are there any suggestions you have?

Ribbon Hero Advanced Levels

I have enjoyed the ribbon hero game, but I have been wondering if there will be future updates that will include more complicated and difficult commands.  For example in word it would be useful if there was a section that dealt with creating tables of contents, indexes, appendices, bibliographies, work cited pages, footnotes and end notes.

I think it would also be useful if excel had examples dealing with lookup functions, more dealed manipulation of the charts, various ways of using the built  in solver and analysis toolpaks.

Also I would love to have Ribbon hero for the other Office software such as Access, OneNote and Outlook.  This is a great concept and learning tool.  I look forward to future development.

About the need to be an administrator to install ribbon hero

Hello,

I found out that you can use a tweak to get this game running as standard user:

Grant the user in question temporary administrator permissions, install ribbon hero and check in office.

Now withdraw administrator permissions from that account.
I know this will not work in corporate environments too easily, but on SOHO this should be no issue.

Happy gaming.

Please destroy my installation of Office, THANKS!

I had installed Ribbon Hero awhile back, was just a nice little plugin.  Worked in both Office 2007 and Ofifce 2010 Beta.  Then, it asked me to Update it.  Now, after updating, RibbonHero doesn't function and it has decided to start having all my versions of Office reinstall themselves, and keep overwriting the other version (IE, I open Excel 2010, and it needs to install.  Then, I open Excel 2007, and it needs to install.  Then, after that, if I want to open Excel 2010, it needs to install too).  It also messed up my Outlook 2010 Beta application.  Now it won't open, and Outlook 2007 has stopped functioning as well.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks, now ribbon hero won't uninstall and I have to reinstall my office suite to make it work again, and hopefully it'll work.  Don't release updates if they SUCK.
